Much has been made about the Packers beating three teams who made the playoffs last year to start the season. As there should be. I love that we've won, but even more I've loved how we've won. I.e., with whatever it takes.
The offense can't manage a touchdown? McCarthy empties out the backfield on 4th and 1 like he's drunk and playing Madden O8? The defense and special teams save the day.
The running game is MIA? They make up for it with short-gaining tight end plays and BFF throwing smart from the shotgun.
My mouth waters at the thought of what we might be able to do with a healthy Morency, when that day comes. Even if he's average, it'll be a welcome step up.
Still, I think the Vikings will prove to be just as tough as the Eagles and Chargers, if not tougher. Why?
1. They have a mucho macho front four on defense--better than the front fours on the Eagles, Giants, and Chargers--who'll be a pain in Favre's side all day long.
2. The Metrodome is one of Favre's least favorite places to play, as he told the Vikings media corp this week. He's 5-10 in the Dome lifetime. The many ex-Packers who have gone over to the Dark Side will be sure to remind their guys of this too.
3. Last, and most obviously, Vikings head coach Brad Childress has a really really huge brain. I hear he's not really even balding, he's just "showing off."
All that said, I think we're gonna beat 'em. And the only thing sweeter than starting 4-0 would be a first quarter Favre to Driver pass to beat the record and set the tone. A shovel pass. Into double coverage. And I wasn't kidding when I said I think Driver will carry Favre over his shoulder to celebrate. I am willing to bet someone $5 on this.
Oh man, I can't wait.
[Update: Looks like Morency's going to play on Sunday. So says Packers.com.]
